Question (Q-15):
Does a man’s Wudhū become invalidated if he touches his front private part directly without any cloth being over it? What is the ruling in relation to touching this part of one’s body unnecessarily?
Answer:
Wudhū does not become invalid by simply touching the male genitalia, even if it is touched directly without any clothing over it.
It is stated in Nūr-ul-Idhāh,
لا ينقض الوضوء مس ذکر و مس امرأة أي مس بشرتها و کذا مس الدبر والفرج مطلقا کذا في مجمع الانهر
“Touching male genitalia, touching a female i.e. her skin and similarly touching the anus and female genitalia do not invalidate the Wudhū”.
It is stated in a blessed Hadīth,
ليس في مس الذکر وضوء
“There is no Wudhū due to touching the male genitalia.”
It is inappropriate to scratch or touch this part of one’s body unnecessarily, as proven by a Blessed Hadith in which it is stated,
“انّ لکفک لموضعا غيره”
“Indeed there is a place other than this for your hands”.
According to Al Imām Ash Shāfi’ī and Al Imām Ahmad (رضى الله عنهما) touching the penis directly without anything over it will invalidate the Wudhū.
