Question (Q-46)
If the burial of a corpse is delayed, must it be washed again?

Answer:
If there is a delay in burying a corpse then it is not necessary to wash it again. To wash it once is Wājib Al Kifāyah (a collective obligation). It is stated in Al Fatāwā Al Hindiyyah, Volume 1, Page 173,

والواجب هو الغسل مرة واحدة

“It is necessary to wash the corpse once.”

The Great Research Scholar, Al Imām Ahmad Razā (رضي الله عنه) states,

“One Ghusl (bathing) will be carried out. There is no need in any situation to wash the body again. If impurity becomes apparent, then it should be washed.” (Al Fatāwā Ar Ridhwiyyah Volume 9, Page 98, Lahore Publication)
