Question (Q-08):
What are the signs of a person becoming adolescent (bāligh)? Are there any other signs of becoming (bāligh) adolescent?
Answer:
Answer with the Help of the Almighty King
There are three signs for the adolescence (bulūgh) of a boy – wet dream (ihtilām), impregnating a female and discharge of semen.
There are also three signs for the adolescence (bulūgh) of a female – wet dream (ihtilām), menstruation (haidh) and becoming pregnant.
If none of the aforementioned signs are found in a boy or a girl then a boy or girl will become adolescent at the age of 15 (this is the age according to the lunar calendar rather than the solar calendar).
It is stated in Durr ul Mukhtār,
“The adolescence of a boy is established through a wet dream, impregnating and discharge of semen. The basis is discharge of semen. The adolescence of a female is established through wet dream, menstruation and becoming pregnant. If none of these are found in boys or girls then they will become adolescent at the age of fifteen years. Fatwā (ruling) is issued upon this.”
