Question (Q-76)
By the Grace of Allah, I perform all five prayers punctually. However, my wife only performs some prayers. I encourage her to perform all the prayers but she still fails to perform all five prayers. What is your advice in relation to this?
Answer:
The wife of the questioner is a disobedient person who is a major sinner due to her forsaking Salāh. The questioner should continue to encourage his wife to perform Salāh. If the wife forsakes Salāh in spite of this then the consequences of these actions are on her head.
It is the Statement of Allah the Almighty;
وامر أهلك بالصلوة واصطبر عليها
“And command your household to establish prayer, and yourself be steadfast in it.” (Sūrah Tā Hā 20:132)
It is also the Statement of the Almighty;
ولا تزر وازرة وزر أخرى
“And no burdened soul will carry another soul’s burden.” (Sūrah Fātir 35:18)
It is stated in Al Fatāwā Ar Ridhwiyyah Volume 5, Page 110 (Lahore publication);
“Certainly the one who intentionally and consciously does not perform even one Salāh on its fixed time without any valid legal reason is a disobedient person who has committed a major sin and is worthy of hellfire. Allah protect.”
It is stated in Al Fatāwā Ar Ridhwiyyah Volume 17, Page 303 (Lahore publication);
“The woman not performing Salāh is not the sin of her husband when she does not accept the husband’s guidance and warning in any way or form.”
