Question (Q-35)
I am learning the method of reciting the Noble Qur’ān in accordance with Tajwīd. I am still correcting the articulation of letters due to which I stutter a lot in Salāh when trying to pronounce words correctly. Will Sajdah As Sahw (Prostration of Forgetfulness) become necessary due to this or not?
Answer:
Trying to recite the Noble Qur’ān with correct Makhārij (articulation) is extremely necessary. Allah (تعالى) says in the Divine Qur’ān,
وَرَتَّلِ القُرْاٰنَ تَرْتِيْلاً
“And recite the Noble Qur’ān slowly.”
(Sūrah Al Muzzammil, 73:4)
If a person stutters in Salāh and due to this, remains silent for the amount of time it takes to say سبحان الله three times (which is the time it takes to perform a main act) then he/she must perform Sajdah As Sahw. It is stated in Radd ul Muhtār,
التفکر الموجب للسهو مالزم منه تاخير الواجب او الرکن عن محله
“The contemplation that causes Sajdah As Sahw (Prostration of Forgetfulness) to become necessary is the one which delays the fulfilling of a Wājib (Necessary) act or delays a Rukn (Main Action) from being fulfilled at its time.”
Allah (تعالى) is Most Knowing
