Question (Q-51)
During Hajj, when should a Hājī perform Raml and Idhtibā’ during Tawāf uz Ziyārah? When should he not perform Raml and Idhtibā’?
Answer:
If a Hājī has already performed a Nafl Tawāf with Raml[1], Idhtibā’[2] and Sa’y and now intends to perform Tawāf uz Ziyārah, then he should now perform Tawāf without Raml and Idhtibā’. If he had not performed Nafl Tawāf with Raml, Idhtibā’ and Sa’y beforehand and he is still in the state of Ihrām then he should perform Tawāf with Raml, Idhtibā’ and Sa’y. If he is not in the state of Ihrām (and is performing Tawāf in normal clothes) then he should perform Tawāf with Raml alone. It is stated in Al Badā’i As Sanā’i (Volume 2, Page 239, Indian Publication):
لو لم يکن طاف طواف اللقاء ولا سعي فإنه يرمل في طواف الزيارة و يسعي بين الصفا والمروة عقيب طواف الزيارة
“If he had not performed Tawāf and Sa’y beforehand, then he should perform Raml during Tawāf uz Ziyārah and perform Sa’y between As Safā and Al Marwah after completing Tawāf Az Ziyārah.”
The reason for not doing Idhtibā’ is that this is only done when in the state of Ihrām.
