Question (Q-27):
When was the first ever Jumu’ah Salāh performed and who was it led by? Where and when did the Holy Prophet (صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِه وَ سَلَّمَ) perform his first Jumu’ah Salāh?
Answer:
Before the Holy Prophet (صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِه وَ سَلَّمَ) migrated to Al Madīnah Al Munawwarah, Sayyidunā Mus’ab Ibn Umair (رضى الله عنه) gathered people for Jumu’ah on the day of ‘Aroobah once a week for Dhikr (Remembrance) and Worship and Sayyidunā As’ad Ibn Zarārah (رضى الله عنه) delivered the Khutbah (Sermon) and led the Salāh. This was the first ever Jumu’ah Salāh. (Ruh ul Ma’ani, Sūrah Isrā)
Allah (تعالى) Knows Best.
After migration, the Holy Prophet (صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِه وَ سَلَّمَ) spent six days in Quba and laid the foundation of a Masjid. Then on Friday, he left from there and headed towards Al Madīnah Al Munawwarah. He reached the valley of Banū Sālim Ibn ‘Awf at the time of Jumu’ah Salāh. He (صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِه وَ سَلَّمَ) stopped and delivered a Sermon (Khutbah) and led the Jumu’ah Salāh. This was the first Jumu’ah Salāh performed by the Holy Prophet (صَلَّى اللهُ تَعَالىٰ عَلَيْهِ وَ اٰلِه وَ سَلَّمَ). That Masjid became known as Masjid-ul-Jumu’ah. This has been mentioned in books of History, Biography and Exegeses.
Allah (تعالى) Knows Best.
