Question (Q-84)
Zaid recited the Qur’ān whilst touching and looking at a Mushaf. He realised afterwards that he was not in the state of Wudhū. Will he be rewarded for this recitation?
Answer:
In the aforementioned situation, Zaid will be rewarded with the Will of Allah based upon his intention even though it is impermissible to touch the Noble Qur’ān without Wudhū.
It is stated in the Noble Qur’ān (Sūrah Al Wāqi’ah 56:79);
لَا يَمَسُّهُ إِلَّا الْمُطَهَّرُوْنَ
“None may touch it, except with ablution.”
It is stated in ‘Umdat-ul-Qārī, commentary upon Sahīh Al Bukhārī,
الخطأ والنسيان رفعا عن أمته ﷺ فلا يترتب على الناسي والمخطئ حكم
“Mistakes and forgetfulness have been raised from his ﷺ Ummah (nation) so rulings will not be enforced against the one who forgets or makes an error.”
It is stated in Ghamz ‘Uyūn il Basāir, commentary upon Al Ashbāh wan Nadhāir,
“And the reward upon it is due to the presence of firm intention which is sincerity. (The Salāh of) a person who unknowingly does Wudhū with impure water to the extent that he prays and continues upon it without being at fault will not be valid in ruling due to the absence of a condition of it (i.e. of Salāh). He will nevertheless be worthy of reward due to the validity of his firm intention.”
And Allah knows best.
